Australia's Genuine Student requirement, explained
What the GS questions ask, and how to answer them honestly with evidence.

In March 2024 the Genuine Student (GS) requirement replaced the older Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) statement. Instead of one long essay, you answer targeted questions in the application form, each with a word limit.
What the questions cover
- Your current circumstances: family, community, employment and economic ties to Nepal
- Why you chose this course and provider, and why Australia
- How the course will benefit your future
- Anything else relevant, such as previous visa refusals or a gap in study
How to answer well
- Be specific: name the modules, the city, and the career role you are aiming for.
- Back every claim with a document (payslips, job offer, property papers, family details).
- Explain gaps and past refusals honestly. Hiding them is worse than the gap itself.
- Keep your answers consistent with your SOP, CV and financial documents.
Draft your answers in a document first. Check each against the word limit and your evidence, then paste them into ImmiAccount.
